Kombucha is an ancient fermented drink said to possess healing properties, available commercially in various flavors but can be expensive. However, making your own mushroom tea at home is quick and cost-effective – this article explains how!

Your kit for making Kombucha will include a SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast), tea, sugar water, and a heavy glass container with an airtight lid to contain any toxic gases released during fermentation. Plastic or ceramic containers may leach toxins into the ferment, so using glass Pyrex or Mason jars with airtight lids such as those offered by Mason Jar is recommended in order to minimize risk of leeching toxins into it during its brewing phase – to protect it against pests such as fruit flies gnats / bugs etc a cloth paper towel or coffee filter secured with rubber bands should cover it during brewing process in order to keep out fruit flies gnats other bugs & also ensure an air tight seal is provided around its container so as not over fermenting to occur and turn into vinegar-like acidic production! Remember, Kombucha should always be made in a dark place, out of direct sunlight to avoid over-fermentation which would turn it vinegary quickly!

Once your kombucha has fermented, remove the SCOBY and bottle your product in glass bottles with tight seals. Leave out for two or three days before refrigerating it; also experiment with adding flavorings such as fruit juice or puree; the possibilities are limitless!

Once your kombucha has been bottled, you can start over by adding a new SCOBY and starting another batch. Your old SCOBY and some of the liquid in the jar may also work; just ensure to rinse it well first!

Fermentation involves bacteria and yeast competing for dominance of a culture. As bacteria outnumber yeast, their numbers will outstrip that of its competitors and overcrowd it, forcing out oxygen-deprived yeast which will then start dying off and disappear altogether. Over time, this will allow the bacteria population to produce mushroom cells that will overtake yeast to form an SCOBY and eventually allow you to make your own tasty and healthy kombucha drinks! Probiotic-rich yogurt drinks have often been described as the “hippie tea” due to their many health benefits. Probiotic-rich yogurt helps provide your diet with essential probiotics that have been known to alleviate symptoms associated with arthritis, fibromyalgia, indigestion and depression among other conditions. Why give it a try? It’s easy and delicious; you can purchase one quart from the grocery store for around $3 per bottle; even better yet if you make your own! Just give it a go; you won’t regret it.
