Does Mushroom Tea Taste Bad?
As functional mushrooms become more and more popular, consumers are seeking innovative ways to incorporate them into their diet. One such trend is mushroom tea. Though it might be tempting to simply drop slices into hot water for mushroom tea making purposes, using pre-made mushroom powder extract is the easiest and fastest way to make mushroom tea and reap its many healthful benefits.
But does mushroom tea taste bad? Definitely not! Mushroom tea can actually be quite delectable. Its taste depends on which variety of mushroom it uses and can even be enhanced with herbs like ginger or lemon for an intriguing sip experience. Some tea varieties even include honey to help offset any earthy umami notes present in some varieties of mushroom teas.
Mushroom tea’s popularity can be attributed to its health-promoting properties of various species of mushrooms used in its formulation. Such teas often boast benefits such as providing energy boost, immune system support and overall wellbeing improvement – with one study involving 100 participants showing how consuming mushroom tea in the morning significantly increased energy levels, focus and concentration as well as overall wellbeing benefits.
Mushrooms have long been revered in eastern medicine for their immune-supportive and adrenal bolstering properties, providing anti-oxidant protection, neurocognitive benefits and cancer fighting abilities. Unfortunately, however, their bioavailability can be low unless an extraction process such as brewing into a tea is undertaken; since mushrooms’ immune activating beta-glucans and polysaccharides are stored within indigestible cell walls that humans cannot digest; hot water releases these essential nutrients so we can access them.
Many companies now provide ready-made mushroom tea powders that can easily be added to a hot cup of water or blended smoothie. These blends feature green or black tea to enhance their flavor, and increase health benefits from mushrooms like Lion’s Mane, Cordyceps and Chaga; though countless combinations exist.
Mushroom tea makes an excellent caffeine-free alternative to coffee. Mushroom tea can be prepared using any variety of tea leaves; however, certain brands specialize in producing mushroom tea with only premium ingredients – like Sayan who harvest wild Chaga from Siberian Birch forests sustainably using unique processing techniques to preserve all its nutritive value as an anti-ageing superfood!
Starting mushroom tea requires boiling water and adding powder. Allow this tea to steep for 15 minutes before straining it before drinking it – honey or lemon are often added for additional sweetness or you could try adding coconut, almond or oat milk for an even sweeter tea!
