Panera Bread recently unveiled their MyPanera+ Coffee subscription program, offering unlimited premium coffee for $8.99 monthly subscription fee and using Apple Pay can get their first four months free. In addition to coffee and tea beverages, subscription also covers unlimited iced and hot coffee beverages; but does not cover espresso drinks such as cappuccino and lattes.

While many bakery/restaurant/fast food chains source their coffee from either large multinational corporations (Tim Hortons) or don’t disclose its sources (Panera), Panera has committed to sourcing premium quality, sustainably grown and ethically traded coffee beans from farms they operate themselves. Unfortunately, their product doesn’t boast organic labelling – something which may deter those prioritizing using non-GMO and organic products in their diets.

La Minita stands out among its competitors by adhering to sustainable and equitable trading practices, employing farmers on shaded estates who receive fair wages with benefits like medical insurance, education and clean water access. Furthermore, their hydroelectric power generator and natural gas fueled mill are used on site in order to reduce their carbon footprint.
