How Long Should You Steep Mushroom Tea?
Many are attracted to mushroom tea due to its myriad health benefits, ranging from stress reduction through anti-aging. Reishi mushrooms may help alleviate anxiety while Lion’s Mane can provide greater focus – all these factors must be taken into account to maximize optimal results when steeping them for best results.
No matter the variety, making mushroom tea requires infusing its extract with hot water in what’s called decoction mode – simmering it for 15-20 minutes helps break down cell walls so the beneficial adaptogens are more readily absorbed by your body.
An easy and time-saving way to enjoy mushroom tea is with pre-packed sachets containing both tea and mushrooms, providing an effortless experience when creating this delightful beverage.
However, for maximum freshness and potency, loose-leaf tea combined with ground dried mushrooms is by far the best way to create mushroom tea. Once all your mushrooms are chopped into small pieces with either scissors or knife (this step helps maximize effectiveness of mushrooms during brewing), start grinding them using either a coffee grinder or food processor – or alternatively chop up with knives! – before beginning.
Once ground, add the ground mushrooms to a large mug with hot water and let it steep for the recommended period of time (typically 3-4 minutes; depending on individual preferences and potency of mushrooms).
Once the tea is complete, strain it through a strainer to remove any remaining pieces of mushrooms before serving it. For added flavor you may wish to add milk, honey or sugar as desired – keeping in mind its shelf life is limited due to being liquid based.
Notably, when taking high-dose magic mushroom tea for fast-acting effects, liquids pass more quickly through your digestive system than solids do; so to start small with this experience and adjust as necessary.
