Previous studies have suggested that coffee may stiffen arteries, leading to heart conditions or even death. But, according to a new study, drinking three cups a day does not increase your risk of stroke or cardiovascular disease death and in fact has shown to reduce it by up to 21%!

Researchers from Queen Mary University of London reviewed data from over 8,000 participants. They divided them into three groups, those who consumed less than one cup per day; those consuming between one and three cups; and those who drank over three cups daily – some even drinking as many as 25 cups! Nevertheless, even those in this last group did not exhibit significantly stiffer arteries than those who did not drink coffee at all.

Studies conducted recently showed that drinking two to three cups of coffee daily reduced heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular disease risks while simultaneously offering other advantages – including protecting against atrial fibrillation! Indeed, those with atrial fibrillation who drank two or three cups experienced even greater reduced risks associated with death from cardiovascular diseases; four to seven times less likely than non-coffee drinkers to succumb.

Though its exact cause remains elusive, coffee may provide protection from heart-related health conditions by offering antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds which help treat or prevent these issues. Other studies have linked coffee with reduced risks of type 2 diabetes – one finding showed this risk decreased 7% for every cup consumed per day; reduced risks of liver cancer as well as Parkinson’s disease.

If you enjoy starting the day right with a cup of joe in the morning, remember to include healthy choices in your beverage if possible. Consuming beverages that contain extra sugar, milk or cream add calories to your daily intake; full-fat milk contains high levels of saturated fat which may increase cholesterol levels; choosing low or skim milk would be more suitable as they contain lower saturated fat levels as well as more calcium than their full-fat counterpart.
