How to Drink Chaga Mushroom Tea
Chaga mushroom tea offers an abundance of nutrients and antioxidants, but in order for its beneficial compounds to be extracted it needs to be simmered for some time.
Prior to taking it, it is wise to consult your physician and conduct your own research on it as it is considered a supplement that could interact with certain medications like blood thinners.
1. Steep for 20 minutes
The Chaga mushroom is an eye-catching specimen with a long history of use, dating back thousands of years and widely revered among indigenous populations for medicinal use (1). Once considered so valuable that even an ice-age caveman had some stored away (1). Today it’s used in teas and supplements and believed to provide many health benefits, including immune system support and cancer fighting properties (2).
When making chaga tea, it’s essential to use high-grade chunks or powder. Organic and sustainably harvested chaga offers optimal taste and health benefits; simply combine this chaga with boiling water in a pot, simmer for 20 minutes at least and then enjoy! As more time is spent simmering your tea, the more concentrated its taste becomes.
Chaga tea boasts superior antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capabilities and contains naturally occurring vanillin, the same chemical responsible for vanilla’s delicious flavor, giving it its signature earthy and bitter flavors. You can enjoy your cup solo, or sweeten it up by adding honey for an additional sweetened experience.
Chaga is a natural way to balance blood sugar, and may help manage glucose levels in those suffering from diabetes. A lab study demonstrated that chaga had more potency alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activities than pharmaceutical drug Acarbose (3); though further research needs to be completed. Although further investigation must be completed before conclusively stating any reduction in diabetes symptoms via consumption of chaga (4) it should always be discussed with your healthcare provider first as excessive consumption can lead to kidney issues (5).
2. Steep for 1 hour
Chaga mushroom tea contains many beneficial vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that may strengthen your immune system and digestion while providing energy and combatting fatigue. Brewing this nutrient-rich infusion at home is simple; just be sure to take your time when creating it for best results! The secret to creating delicious chaga tea lies in preparation.
Filtered or spring water should be used in order to maximize flavor and nutrients in your tea, with temperatures just below boiling. Add chunks or powder from chaga berries (preferably dried ones) into this hot water, allow to steep for at least 20 minutes (for an intense infusion, simmer slowly up to an hour) then serve.
Once your preferred steeping time has expired, remove and strain the tea. Sweeten as desired before enjoying! Chaga mushrooms contain antioxidants and essential nutrients like fatty acids, fiber and protein – as well as being known to boost immunity, fight cancer cells and alleviate chronic fatigue. However, not much research backs these claims; therefore it is wise to consult a healthcare practitioner prior to including new supplements into your routine.
Chaga may boast some promising anti-inflammatory properties, yet its high level of oxalate may pose risks to kidney health. A report published by 2020 highlighted an individual who took five teaspoons daily and experienced kidney issues; further study may prove useful as treatment option for ulcers and chronic gastritis; it’s best to consult your healthcare provider first if taking blood thinners or medications while pregnant or breastfeeding, however.
3. Steep for 2 hours
Slow and gentle simmering of chaga allows for maximum extraction of its rich flavors, nutrients, and medicinal properties. Once desired brewing time has elapsed, remove pot from heat and strain tea into pitcher or individual cups; chunks may be saved or discarded depending on personal taste; they could even be added into soups, baked goods or other culinary treats!
Chaga can be purchased in chunks, powder, or tea bag form. Depending on your individual needs and preferences, consider organically harvested or farmed varieties; alternatively you could purchase an extract/tincture form of this herb that has been concentrated into alcohol solution for easier absorption.
Chaga offers numerous health benefits, from immune support and energy boosts to anti-aging effects. Packed with antioxidants that neutralize free radicals in the body that cause oxidative stress that leads to signs of aging such as gray hair, wrinkles and sagging skin; plus its proven ability to decrease inflammation within our tissues.
Though there are numerous claims online about the benefits of chaga, many have not been scientifically researched. Therefore, until further studies are completed on its effects, it is advisable to speak to your physician prior to beginning any new supplements such as chaga. This is especially important if taking insulin or medicines used to manage blood sugar levels as this supplement could interfere with their effectiveness. Furthermore, people suffering from bleeding disorders should avoid using it due to vitamin K’s blood thinning properties; vitamin K contains anticoagulants which make blood more vulnerable against blood thinning processes than normal blood.
4. Steep for 4 hours
Chaga is an all-natural remedy for colds and flu. It helps produce white blood cells, which fight harmful viruses and bacteria.(2)
Chaga contains high levels of antioxidants that help neutralize free radicals that exacerbate oxidative stress in the body and lead to common signs of aging such as sagging skin and fine lines and wrinkles. (3)
Chaga mushroom is not intended as a cure-all, but its immune-enhancing benefits make it a nutritious addition to your diet. Please keep in mind, though, that its efficacy has yet to be demonstrated in humans – before adding anything new into your lifestyle consult your physician first.
If you’re curious to try chaga for the first time, tea may be an ideal starting point. Not only can it add variety and nutrition, but you must first learn how to prepare it by boiling and simmering it for at least an hour before using it in your tea beverage.

Studies have revealed its betulinic acid-rich constituents to inhibit cell proliferation and tumor development, polysaccharides, beneficial carbohydrates, bioactive enzymes, minerals and nutrients as well as numerous antioxidants; furthermore it has also been discovered to reduce inflammation while strengthening immunity by activating natural killer (NK) cells according to research published in Molecules journal.
Making your own chaga tea at home is an easy and cost-effective way to reap its many health benefits. The infusion process reveals natural compounds locked within its cell walls; and you can experiment with various brewing times until you find one that suits both your taste and needs.
