How to Make Healthy Vanilla Syrup For Coffee
Homemade vanilla syrup for coffee can make all the difference in any beverage, saving money and time on expensive cafe drinks. Plus, this simple DIY project makes a wonderful present – pour it into a pretty bottle or jar and package with some locally roasted coffee for an extra special gift! Plus, homemade syrups like these can sweeten iced tea, lemonade, cocktails and baked goods too!
Make this Vanilla Syrup for Coffee using water, white sugar (for optimal results you could also try brown sugar for deeper flavors), vanilla extract and a large saucepan as well as bottles or mason jars to store your syrup in.
This recipe for vanilla simple syrup adds vanilla extract and the use of vanilla bean pods for extra flavour and texture. Feel free to customize the recipe by switching up the type of sugar used or by incorporating additional flavorings like cinnamon, nutmeg or ginger – you could even replace water with juice or tea to create an exciting fruit-flavored syrup for beverages and desserts!
Step one is to prepare the vanilla bean. I used a paring knife to scrape out all of its seeds with ease, although you may leave some behind for extra flavor boost. Or add in vanilla extract post-cooking; recipe testing showed me this method gave a stronger vanilla aroma!
Once all the ingredients have been assembled, bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, continuously stirring with a wooden spoon until all of the sugar has been dissolved. As soon as your syrup begins to simmer, lower its heat and continue cooking for three more minutes before switching it off altogether – when ready, it should have an amber hue and taste delicious!
Once cool, transfer to a clean bottle or mason jar and store in the refrigerator for up to a month before refrigerating.
Use this DIY syrup to add flavour and save money in coffee, iced tea, lemonade and cocktails. Or try mixing it into hot chocolate for an indulgent homemade beverage! With less cost and greater flavour potential compared to store-bought alternatives found at coffee shops – enjoy!
