How to Make Reishi Mushroom Tea With an Easy Recipe
Reishi mushrooms, revered functional mushrooms that are considered the “mushroom of immortality”, have long been used in Eastern herbalism as longevity-promoting medicines (1). Reishi tea can provide you with numerous health benefits including improved energy, immune system support and reduced inflammation (1). Making Reishi mushroom tea at home can be an easy and tasty way to reap its rewards daily! In this article we’ll show you how! We provide an easy recipe you can enjoy every day.
Reishi tea can be prepared using either powdered or dried pieces of the mushroom, mixed in hot water and consumed to increase immunity, sleep better and decrease anxiety levels. Reishi is said to promote healthy metabolism and assist with weight loss (2); however it should be noted that taking supplements such as these does not replace medications; they may cause side effects and it’s best to consult your physician first if taking this route.
To make Reishi Tea from Dried Pieces, first chop and grind mushrooms coarsely using either a spice grinder or mortar and pestle until a powder forms, before wrapping securely in muslin and setting aside. Next, bring 8 cups of water to boil with Reishi powder added, reduce the heat, let simmer for two hours then remove from the heat before straining to make Tea (3). Consume one cup per day as recommended (3)
Reishi tea’s taste may not be very strong and its texture can be slightly gritty, yet many people enjoy drinking it. Reishi mushroom tea can be sweetened with honey or sugar to enhance its flavor – try different sweeteners until you find what works for you best – but too much sweetener can defeat its purpose by increasing calorie consumption; also be wary consuming too much as too much can increase stomach upset or allergic reactions when consumed as tea.
Ganoderma lucidum, commonly referred to as Ganoderma lingzhi or Ren shen, is used as the main component in this tea. This polypore medicinal mushroom can be found throughout Appalachia and grows on dead hemlock trees as well as hardwoods; you can find it for purchase at most herbal shops; for optimum quality ensure you purchase organic or wild harvested varieties; other options may include specialty stores and online retailers (4). In addition to Reishi mushroom tea products there are various other mushroom infused products like supplements or Elixirs available for purchase on the market (4).
