Is Chemex Coffee Healthier?
The Chemex coffee maker is a simple yet beautiful pour-over style brewer designed by Schlumbohm Lab Flasks made of sturdy borosilicate glass for laboratory flasks, featuring a wooden collar with leather tie for easy holding, as well as an ergonomic pour groove and groove for pouring. Cleanup is easy, while its minimalist aesthetic looks great in your kitchen countertop. Additionally, it filters out bitter acids and oils, producing nuanced coffee that’s lighter in body than French presses but still full-bodied coffee that produces rich but more nuanced cups of brew!
Chemex pour-over brewing methods don’t require electricity and can be used at both home and office locations. They are easy to handle, with temperature controls being set easily. Experimentation may help find your perfect flavor; just remember that water chemistry plays a crucial role in extracting flavors!
Chemex coffee should be prepared using water that has been heated to an exacting temperature using filters, distilled, or spring water, with heat resistance (preferably 90-110 C or 65-70% humidity) if possible. For optimal results it’s essential that the temperature remains consistent during brewing so all essential oils can be extracted efficiently – an accurate thermometer reading provides an accurate reading of this precise temperature of your brew.
Start by boiling your desired amount of water and pre-wetting your filter (for more info visit Filter Folding 101). Once this step is completed, add ground coffee by pouring just enough water over it so it covers its entirety (also called blooming), waiting about 30 seconds and pouring slowly in circular motions until about 520 grams have been added; pouring no larger than the size of half dollar pieces to avoid either over or under-extraction of grounds.
Once you’re finished brewing, remove the filter and enjoy your beverage! If you have an extra filter stored in the fridge, keep it handy to use for iced coffee or lattes later – this way, any of that delicious coffee won’t go to waste and sediment control can also be managed more easily!
Once you have selected the appropriate bean type, the key to successful Chemex brewing lies in getting the ideal grind size. An ideal Chemex grind should be coarser than what can pass through a drip coffee filter but still pass easily through its filter. While using a burr grinder would help achieve this consistency more easily, it may not always be feasible with budget restrictions or limited space available to you – alternatively there may be “medium”-sized filters available so you can experiment with various grind sizes until finding one which works for you!
