Is Coffee Everyday Healthy?
Coffee has long been a part of daily household routines. It can help kick-start the day, boost alertness and help overcome fatigue; as well as providing antioxidants and caffeine that may contribute to a healthy diet. Some individuals may be sensitive to caffeine consumption; it’s important to assess your tolerance level; however if you drink less than 400 mg a day without experiencing side effects then coffee consumption in moderation should probably be safe for most individuals.
Recent studies on whether coffee should be part of everyday health habits indicate that those who consumed more than two cups per day had lower rates of diseases compared to non-coffee drinkers. Coffee drinking decreased type 2 diabetes risk by 7% for every cup consumed, liver cancer risk, heart disease risk and depression risks were all decreased as was associated with less Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s disease and Gout cases.
People who drank more than two cups of black coffee per day had an almost 50-percent lower risk of heart disease compared to those who didn’t drink any, according to three long-term studies that surveyed more than 300,000 men and women over up to 30 years.
Researchers found that those who regularly consumed coffee were less likely to be obese, have high blood pressure or have heart disease. This may be because coffee acts as a stimulant that increases metabolism while providing antioxidant protection that may reduce insulin resistance. Furthermore, drinking coffee may even improve mood while helping prevent dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
Note that these studies are all observational; therefore, proving causality between coffee consumption and reduced disease outcomes cannot be established definitively. Still, their results warrant further consideration: among its other advantages are lower risks of multiple sclerosis, an incapacitating neurological condition; coffee may also act as a mild antidepressant by improving transmission of mood-regulating dopamine and its receptors; furthermore it could help protect from sunburns by protecting from sun rays reflected off skin surfaces; the latter effect being particularly noteworthy given that coffee helps control these risks by keeping sun exposed skin tissues exposed; it’s worth bearing these results in mind!
However, coffee should not be seen as a replacement for other healthy behaviors; rather it should supplement these practices such as eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, exercising regularly, managing stress effectively, not smoking, getting adequate restful sleep and managing weight. Furthermore, keep in mind that medical conditions can have an effect on your sensitivity to caffeine; so it is a good idea to discuss it with your physician prior to starting to drink coffee regularly.
