M&S, one of Britain’s top food retailers, is proud to be the first major UK supermarket to launch an in-house range of Halal ready meals. Available for purchase at 36 selected stores across Britain, these new dishes have been developed in collaboration with food technologists at M&S as well as Halal Food Authority 1 (HFA 1)-certified suppliers.
Bubble Tea may appear non-Halal due to its cultural roots in Taiwan and Southeast Asia; however, this is not necessarily the case as Bubble tea can adhere to Halal dietary guidelines. A major concern of bubble tea relates to its iconic tapioca pearls or popping boba, which may raise concerns for some observant Muslim consumers due to their similarity to gelatin-based products; these pearls, however, are actually made from tapioca, agar or alginate which are all considered Halal products.
