Is Habitat Coffee Halal?
Habitat Coffee is an intimate cafe known for serving delicious comfort food and locally-roasted coffee in a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, and also offering innovative dishes with quality ingredients and creative combinations that appeal to various palates. Their success may be attributed to various factors including their focus on providing top quality ingredients while offering cutting-edge dishes, prioritizing customer service, and creating an inviting ambience which encourages repeat visits.
Habitat Coffee was originally opened along the shophouses in Upper Thomson in 2011, quickly becoming a beloved brunch and coffee joint for its patrons. Ten years on, they’ve relocated into more central Lavender / Jalan Besar neighbourhood with airy modern store floor featuring pastel turquoise counter.
This cafe’s menu combines breakfast classics with innovative beverages like cold brew and Vietnamese coffee, offering various syrups, milk alternatives and brewing methods for each drink to meet individual preferences. In addition, they offer pastries and desserts to accompany these beverages.
PETA has voiced serious concerns over kopi luwak coffee, made from beans partially digested and excreted by Asian palm civets. Many regard kopi luwak coffee as an exotic delicacy but PETA has raised objections over the cruel treatment of these animals in captivity where they often face malnutrition, infections and zoochosis as well as other health complications.
Though many Muslims share these concerns, some Muslim scholars contend that kopi luwak coffee is permissible since its beans come from external parts of an animal and thus do not violate Islamic dietary law. Others maintain otherwise and argue that using captive civets to harvest these beans violates animal welfare regulations.
