Is Oleato Coffee Healthy?
Starbucks stands apart from beverage companies by not making specific health claims about the Oleato line; rather, relying on consumers to make their own decisions about the drink. “We don’t feel pressured to introduce something new – rather it’s more about building an identity worthy of being called Starbucks,” Brewer told CNN.
Oleato is the first line from coffee giant Starbucks that features olive oil infusions, paying tribute to an age-old tradition in parts of Italy where people take pleasure in taking an olive oil supplement every day as part of an uplifting daily ritual. These beverages feature the subtle flavor of oil and are intended to complement espresso rather than overwhelm it. Starbucks is offering three Oleato beverages — a hot oat milk latte, an iced shaken espresso with hazelnut and oat milk, and a golden foam cold brew made of two servings of Partanna extra virgin olive oil infused into its sweetened milk foam — to mark their latest global offering: Oleato Series was first unveiled last week in Italy but will become widely available starting this spring across stores nationwide and internationally; especially those located in Southern California, Japan, Middle East and Europe.
Starbucks collaborated with an Italian olive oil brand, Partanna Olive Oil, to craft these drinks, taking inspiration from some of their Milan customers who take a spoonful of olive oil each day as an “uplifting” ritual. Their drinks combine arabica coffee beans from Starbucks with Partanna olive oil in an alchemical combination of nature’s finest ingredients.
Nutritionists agree that olive oil-laced coffee drinks have potential, but it’s important to remember that olive oil still has high calories and fat counts that could counteract any potential benefits, says Rigved Tadwalkar, M.D. of California Cardiology Group in an interview with Prevention. Furthermore, many drinks come with syrups, sweetened creams and other toppings which add unnecessary sugars into your diet.
If you’re searching for something sweet but low in calories, try an Oat Milk Latte with Olive Oil – it features the creamy combination of espresso and plant-based Oat Milk that provides lower calories than traditional dairy options, while olive Oil’s unique flavors blend perfectly with Espresso for an exquisite beverage experience!
Iced lattes with oat milk and hazelnuts offer another healthy option that’s low-calorie. But although these beverages provide fiber, be mindful when topping it off with sweeteners that could raise your risk for obesity. Customize your beverage using different milk alternatives or flavor add-ins; that way you can select one best suited to your preferences and health goals.
