Mushroom coffee, an aromatic beverage enriched with fungi-enriched extract, has recently made headlines as the latest wellness trend to emerge on social media. But is this new beverage any good?

Mushrooms are an incredibly healthy food with many positive properties, yet more research needs to be conducted on this beverage. Due to possible potential bloat-causing agents in mushrooms, they should only be consumed if you already have digestive issues such as IBS. In general, however, regular coffee will usually do just fine while adding mushrooms to meals like stir-fry is advised for now.

Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) mushrooms are one of the most frequently utilized herbal medicine remedies. As an adaptogen, Reishi helps your body cope with stress and manage fatigue more easily while its rich beta-glucan content activates white blood cells to fight abnormal cells such as cancerous ones.

Cordyceps sinensis mushrooms are another popular addition to coffee. This fungus can be found at the bases of living and dead trees in forests and has long been recognized for its immune-enhancing and energy enhancing effects; when mixed into coffee it adds an earthy, woody taste that works wonderfully!

Mushroom coffee may interfere with sleep and have adverse reactions for those taking blood thinners, and can still contain enough caffeine to cause allergic reactions or upset stomach symptoms in some people. Because of this, if you have any underlying health conditions it’s wise to avoid mushroom coffee altogether.
