Is Reishi Coffee Good For You?
Reishi mushrooms have long been used in traditional Eastern medicine to promote health and longevity, often described as the “magic mushroom.” Reishi is an earthy-fruity-flavored mushroom often consumed as whole fungus or nutritional supplements; today they can also be found in instant coffee, iced teas, smoothies, and chocolate bars!
Mushroom coffee has quickly gained in popularity both domestically and abroad due to its immune-enhancing, detoxifying, and stress-relieving properties. Mushroom coffee typically combines different medicinal mushrooms such as chaga, lion’s mane, cordyceps turkey tail reishi. Reishi has long been recognized for its adaptogenic effects that support white blood cell function while soothing emotions, increasing energy levels and improving sleep quality.
Reishi coffee holds great promise; however, there has yet to be sufficient research supporting most of its claims. Therefore, it is advisable that before adding this product to your routine – particularly pregnant or breastfeeding women – they consult a healthcare provider or doctor prior. Furthermore, as reishi mushrooms may boost immune activity which could worsen symptoms associated with immunosuppressants prescribed for conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or inflammatory bowel disease and it contains caffeine so should not be taken by people sensitive to stimulants such as those taking immunosuppressants medications for conditions like these two conditions. Finally reishi coffee does contain caffeine so should not be added by those sensitive to stimulants or those sensitive to stimulants as an addition.
