Organic Coffee Organizations
Organic coffee is not only delicious, but it is also an easy and sustainable way to show your support for environmental protection and human well-being. Demand for these products has increased due to growing awareness of chemical-laden conventional agriculture’s negative effects on ecosystems and human health – leading to many organizations helping ensure consumers can choose responsibly-sourced high quality coffee options.
Below is an overview of some organizations working towards providing you with an excellent cup of coffee.
Fair Trade USA, as the leading third-party certifier of Fair Trade Certified coffee in the US, audits transactions between international suppliers of certified coffee and US companies that market it. By doing this, they help empower coffee farmers and workers while protecting the environment.
Organic Trade Association mes As a non-profit organization, the Organic Trade Association aims to advance organic trading throughout North America and oversees certification from farm to consumer. Their work addresses both environmental and economic issues such as global recession, climate change, and trade justice.
The Songbird Foundation
As its name implies, The Songbird Foundation works to protect migratory bird habitat by encouraging consumers to buy only shade grown, organic Fair Trade coffee – as opposed to sun grown varieties that may use synthetic fertilizers and pesticides that devastate natural areas and harm birds that depend on them for survival.
Variety Coffee of Brooklyn strives to deliver customers the perfect cup of coffee by procuring green (unroasted) beans from across the globe, taking care to include different growing seasons and flavors in its mix. Their organic certification requires them to adhere to stringent cleaning and record keeping standards which they say has helped improve overall production processes as well.
ECOCERT stands as an authority in organic farming and processing. Their inspectors conduct regular audits of supply chains to verify compliance with USDA organic regulations by all members, from growers and processors through roasters and retailers. Their certifications are widely recognized, trusted, and respected.
Dynamite Roasting
Here at Dynamite Roasting, all our coffees are USDA organic certified and we strive to include as much of our inventory under this label. In addition, all of our Fair Trade coffee is also organic certified so our customers can purchase double organic/Fair Trade certified varieties – providing extra income back into farmers’ farms that help fight climate change while investing in new equipment or expanding existing infrastructure.
