What is Acid Free Coffee?
Coffee experts typically refer to acid content when discussing flavor notes for specific brews rather than actual acids in your cup of joe, yet some brands can have more acid than others. Regular coffee brews have between thirty and fifty acids present; including those found in citrus fruits. On a pH scale that goes from 0-7 with 7 being neutral being considered neutral; coffee has an acid level between 4.85-5.10 which could potentially cause issues for some individuals.
Acid itself may not be harmful, but excess amounts can contribute to heartburn or tooth decay in some individuals, leading many coffee drinkers to opt for low acid coffee options. Thanks to the brewing process, many ways are available for decreasing acidity; lighter roasts or paper filters in pour-over systems may reduce acid levels significantly.
Puroast coffee offers one such low acid option with their proprietary process to lower acidity without sacrificing taste or quality, which may reduce enamel erosion risk as your tooth surface gradually wears away, leading to tooth sensitivity and increased cavity risks.
