What is Acid Free Coffee?
Coffee has long been part of our culture worldwide, serving as an early morning ritual that sets our day off right. While its acidity may bring comfort for some people, others who suffer from stomach conditions such as heartburn or regurgitation may find its presence distasteful.
There are options available to those suffering from acid reflux symptoms and associated issues, including low acid coffee as a great solution. Low acid coffee offers some of the same health benefits of traditional coffee while simultaneously relieving symptoms associated with acidity reflux.
Coffee’s acidic effects don’t come directly from its beans but rather from organic acids produced during roasting, specifically chlorogenic acids which contribute to its unique taste and aroma. Unfortunately, however, they may cause discomfort to some individuals due to being released during this process.
Low acid coffee, on the other hand, is produced by roasting coffee beans at lower temperatures for longer. This allows the coffee to take on its natural sweetness more readily while significantly decreasing acid production during roasting.
To produce low acid coffee, several important factors must be taken into account. First is selecting high quality beans. Next comes making sure they don’t become over-roasted to the point of charring during roasting. Furthermore, choosing coarse grain coffee helps limit how much acidity is extracted during brewing process and quality filtered water reduces impurities that could potentially impact acidity levels of coffee.
