If you suffer from digestive issues like acid reflux, coffee might no longer be your go-to beverage of choice in the morning. Coffee’s acidity can irritate stomach discomfort and even lead to heartburn; so finding an option with lower acidity might be the key to enjoying your morning beverage without experiencing its unpleasant side effects. Luckily, many brands now produce less acidic versions that won’t compromise flavor in order to be easier on stomachs – some even boast flavor profiles as good or better than before!

Dark roast coffees tend to have the lowest acid levels because their compounds don’t activate stomach cells to produce excess acidity. But not all dark roasts are equal – and how you brew can also have an effect on acidity; generally speaking, espresso and cold brew have lower acid levels due to using less heat during their respective processes.

Some coffee companies make deceptive claims about their low acid coffee, in part due to the absence of standardised testing and regulations within the coffee industry. Unfortunately, such claims can mislead those seeking relief for digestive issues caused by regular coffee’s acidity.

At our test of low acid coffees advertised as such, most failed to deliver anything beyond a basic and bland taste. One notable exception was Mastermind Coffee which boasted pleasant notes of chocolate and nuts. Unfortunately, other samples contained unpleasant flavors, including rotten milk from HealthWise coffee and musty or spoiled fruit from Tyler’s coffee – thus rendering our test samples less than ideal.
