Mushroom coffee is an innovative beverage created by mixing ground coffee with medicinal mushrooms such as reishi, cordyceps and lion’s mane – which have long been recognized for their therapeutic value in traditional Chinese medicine – such as Reishi, Cordyceps and Lion’s Mane. The resultant drink has been widely lauded for boosting focus and energy while helping regulate blood sugar. So it comes as no surprise that mushroom coffee has quickly become the latest functional food trend, yet diabetics must consider its effects on their health before trying out this trending drink!

Mushrooms have long been recognized for their powerful health benefits, including strengthening immune systems, improving gut health and managing stress. But whether or not these effects transfer over to brewed mushroom blends has yet to be proven; many major mushroom brands make claims that are unsupported by any scientific evidence backed up with human clinical trials.

Even without conclusive evidence to back its claims, mushroom coffee continues to gain in popularity. Now available at major retailers as well as coffeehouses nationwide, its availability has become widespread with some people willing to spend double what would normally cost for regular coffee just to try this new beverage!

Fungi found in mushroom coffee may actually provide benefits to those suffering from diabetes, particularly as most mushroom coffee blends contain reishi and cordyceps mushrooms, known to possess hypoglycemic properties which help regulate blood sugar levels. More research must be conducted into their effectiveness on diabetes; and traditional therapies, including medication, balanced nutrition and regular physical exercise must not be substituted with mushroom coffee as treatments for managing it.

But for those already diagnosed with diabetes, can this fungi-infused coffee help them manage their condition? Unfortunately, that depends on the dosage of medicinal mushrooms found in each product and, given that many contain proprietary mushroom blends without clear information regarding how much of each ingredient per serving it contains, it’s impossible to know whether the amount of reishi or cordyceps in each cup provides benefits or not.

However, research on Reishi and Cordyceps mushrooms have demonstrated their ability to positively affect insulin sensitivity, thus helping reduce symptoms associated with Type 2 diabetes, including high blood glucose levels. Reishi and Turkey Tail mushrooms are being evaluated for their effects against chronic diseases caused by excessive inflammation – such as heart disease and cancer – however more research needs to be conducted before drawing any definitive conclusions about whether these effects extend into mushroom coffee drinks themselves. For the most part though, mushroom coffee should be safe for most healthy individuals without allergies or intolerances to certain varieties; should you have any doubts before drinking this beverage consult your physician prior to doing anything.
