How Is Coffee Healthy?
Many of us do not hesitate to start our day right with a cup of coffee, yet many are unaware of its health benefits. You asked, and here’s our answer: Coffee may offer surprising health advantages: high antioxidant content can protect cells against chemical deterioration while helping regulate insulin. Furthermore, caffeine boosts mental health through improving mood and cognitive performance.
But it’s important to keep in mind that too much coffee can lead to side effects, including anxiety, heartburn and high blood pressure. Furthermore, drinking hot coffee (particularly at very high temperatures) increases your risk of esophageal cancer.
Most adults can tolerate up to 400 milligrams of caffeine daily – roughly equivalent to two or three 12 oz cups of coffee – without experiencing any negative side effects. If you’re an avid coffee consumer, it is wise to adhere to this limit so as to prevent long-term issues with long-term exposure.
One surprising way that coffee can benefit our health is its ability to protect against liver disease. Researchers found that those who drank two to three cups a day of caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee experienced up to 43% reduced risks for chronic liver diseases like cirrhosis and cancer than those who didn’t drink it, even without caffeination present – suggesting it’s not only caffeine contributing.
Studies have also demonstrated that drinking more coffee reduces your risk of Type 2 diabetes; its protective effects increasing with increasing daily coffee intake by as much as seven percent for those consuming four to six cups daily; those who regularly consumed java were up to 65% less likely to develop Parkinson’s disease than those who forgoing any caffeine consumption altogether.
Coffee consumption not only protects our hearts and reduces our risk of diabetes, but can also keep skin looking youthful by providing high amounts of polyphenols, known for their anti-ageing effects. Polyphenols help prevent premature aging as well as diseases such as wrinkles, psoriasis and dermatitis from appearing on skin surfaces.
Avoid adding sugar and creamer to your coffee, as they can reduce its healthful benefits. Instead, add cinnamon, stevia or unsweetened almond milk as alternative flavoring agents and consider cold brewing your drink; cold brewing is healthier and may even improve flavor profiles!
