How to Make Mushroom Tea
Mushroom tea, made from psilocybin-rich mushrooms, has long been part of ancient cultural ceremonies and modern experiments with altered states of consciousness. Easy to prepare, mushroom tea has the power to produce profound life-altering effects ranging from visual hallucinations to spiritual journeys if taken at the appropriate dose – however it’s important that before making your first mushroom tea experience that adequate research be conducted first!
As the first step of creating your own magic mushroom tea, selecting the appropriate mushrooms is often difficult. Different strains contain different levels of psilocybin and provide different experiences. Therefore, it is wise to consult a knowledgeable local grower who can assist in selecting appropriate strains of mushrooms for you.
Once you’ve selected your mushrooms, the next step should be preparing them for brewing. When using fresh or dried mushrooms, cut into smaller pieces before adding to water so they infuse faster and more effectively. Some find adding lemon juice beneficial in terms of adding both flavor enhancement and speeding up psilocybin extraction more efficiently.
Once your water reaches a simmer, bring it just under boiling. Heat degrades psilocybin and can reduce its strength in your tea, so once boiling remove from heat and allow the mushrooms to steep for 10-15 minutes before adding any other herbs that you are using as this will lead to stronger results.
Once your tea has steeped, you have two options for drinking it – drinking directly or straining to separate solids from liquid. Straining also gives you an opportunity to add any additional ingredients like honey or ginger that might enhance its effects. It is recommended to consume your creation within a week or so of its creation as otherwise it can begin degrading over time.
This method works equally well whether using fresh or dried mushrooms, truffles or regular mushrooms; your selection can also depend on personal preference; some people may prefer whole mushrooms over powders.
Once you’ve mastered the basic recipe, there are numerous variations you can try. Experiment with different mushroom varieties or incorporate medicinal mushrooms. Also worth testing out are different ratios of water to mushrooms which will impact its strength as well as overall effect. If you want an extra refreshing experience during hot weather conditions, add ice cubes for additional chilling effects!
