How to Prepare Reishi Mushroom Tea
Ganoderma lucidum (also referred to as Lingzhi or Reishi mushrooms) has long been recognized for its functional benefits, including improving immunity, decreasing inflammation and providing mental health support.
Given its fibrous texture, however, barley can be challenging for our bodies to digest; therefore it’s essential that it’s prepared in accordance with your health goals.
Boiling
Reishi mushrooms (Ganoderma lucidum) are revered in Asian cultures for their health benefits and longevity, depicted as symbols of health in Chinese art and ancient texts as well as scientific research that supports many traditional uses, including increasing immune function and encouraging restful sleep.
Reishi mushrooms contain polysaccharides, sterols and amino acids that support healthy cells by protecting against free radical damage and encouraging renewal of tissues. Reishi may also have antioxidant properties and help lower your blood pressure – thus decreasing risk for heart disease – as well as reduce stress and anxiety for a calmer state of mind.
Traditional methods involve boiling dried reishi mushrooms to produce tea with medicinal benefits, producing an unpleasant yet bitter beverage. You can also pulverize these mushrooms to form powder that’s easy to add into food or beverages while still retaining most of their healthful properties. This form offers less bitter taste as well as greater healthful benefits from its usage in this form.
Reishi extract powders and tinctures are available online, using dual extraction methods that capture both water-soluble and alcohol-soluble compounds for maximum dosages and versatility when it comes to taking in these mushrooms. Tinctures provide convenient on-the-go consumption by soaking reishi mushrooms in alcohol for quick infusion into smoothies or other liquids, providing more potency when consumed alone or mixed into beverages like smoothies or juice.
Reishi may help to enhance white blood cell activity and fight infection by stimulating white blood cell activity and strengthening immunity against infections and pathogens. Furthermore, its consumption may reduce fatigue and enhance quality of life for cancer patients while further research suggests it could even kill cancer cells and prevent their spread.
Reishi can significantly lower blood pressure, so those taking medications to treat low blood pressure or taking them themselves should stay away. Reishi may interact with certain medicines including blood thinners and antidepressants. It’s best to start slowly when beginning with Reishi to ensure you receive maximum benefit without adverse side effects. Speak to your physician first if interested. It is also wise to start small so as to monitor effects without experiencing side effects from its consumption.
Pulverizing
Reishi mushroom has long been prized for its healing powers and believed to promote longevity and health via its regenerative and antioxidant capabilities. Modern scientific research is now beginning to validate these claims, giving rise to both traditional and modern medicinal uses for this versatile mushroom.
Reishi is often used as an adaptogen that balances body and mind. Beyond its anti-ageing benefits, reishi may also boost energy levels, improve sleep cycles, help alleviate stress and anxiety symptoms and may have an antibacterial and cancer fighting properties that help the immune system to respond more quickly to infections or cancerous attacks.
Reishi can be enjoyed as either an adaptogen tea, or combined with other ingredients for herbal blends. Our Reishi Delight blend combines Reishi with warming cinnamon, herbal honeybush and bright orange peel for a cup of soothing nourishment and pleasure.
Mushroom tinctures are another popular method of preparing reishi. Tinctures involve immersing mushrooms in alcohol to concentrate their active compounds, extracting both water- and alcohol-soluble elements such as polysaccharides and triterpenes – providing comprehensive medicinal benefits. Reishi tinctures provide one such preparation method.
Reishi tinctures come in both liquid and capsule formats. The liquid version makes it simple to integrate reishi into foods or beverages without exerting too much effort, while capsules offer precise dosing with ease of consumption.
Reishi mushroom pills offer an easier method for taking in this nutritional superfood, usually made of dried reishi mixed with other herbs and supplements to provide a comprehensive approach. This option may be better suited to those without enough time or desire to prepare their own reishi mushroom tea.
Reishi may help men maintain prostate health. It could reduce symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia, improve libido and stamina as well as promote hair growth due to its ability to inhibit dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the primary source of male pattern baldness.

Ganoderma lucidum, more commonly known by its common names of Reishi mushrooms or Lily of the Valley mushrooms, is used in western medicine for treating cancer, high blood pressure, liver disease and nervous disorders. Furthermore, its antiviral, antifungal and immune boosting properties help relieve fatigue and anxiety symptoms.
Reishi mushroom tea is an all-natural solution to many health ailments, including influenza and insomnia. Additionally, it reduces depression while heightening spirituality – both qualities often promoted as health tonics by sellers of powdered form mixed with coffee as health tonics.
Reishi mushrooms, more commonly known by their scientific name Ganoderma tsugae, are an edible specialty found throughout Appalachia. Grow Ohio Valley community educator Hannah Hedrick noted that wild reishi or “hemlock varnish shelf mushrooms” (Ganoderma tsugae) can often be found growing on dead hemlock trees near their trunks or stumps in Appalachia and are easily distinguished. There is no similar species to lookout for as these mushrooms don’t look similar compared to their namesakes counterparts – making their presence unmissable! Hedrick noted how quickly decomposing once they dry.
