Yesterday, Bru opened their fifth cafe in Leicestershire’s Oadby – marking another branch in their coffee shop chain. Offering food, desserts, hot beverages and iced refreshers that are all Halal, as well as their exclusive 100% arabica blend ethically-sourced beans (known for loose-leaf tea and handcrafted gelato products which are all Halal).

Does Coffee Contravene Islamic Teachings

Caffeine does not contravene Islam as it does not fall under the category of an intoxicant. Therefore it can be used in moderation without risk to health – in fact it may even prove beneficial!

As coffee comes from plants, it is impossible to completely avoid insect remnants in our coffee. Furthermore, E471 may only be considered halal if extracted from vegetable fats or animal fats considered acceptable by Islam; otherwise it becomes forbidden – in such instances pig fat could constitute forbidden material and render E471 illegal.
