Is Coffee a Nootropic?
Coffee is an invigorating beverage made from the beans of the Coffea arabica plant and one of the three most consumed beverages worldwide. Coffee’s invigorating effects come primarily from caffeine consumption; however it contains numerous other chemicals including alkaloids, phenolic acids, flavonoids, fatty acids and volatile components which also serve to provide stimulation. It has anti-inflammatory, diuretic and digestive properties as well as cognitive enhancing and energy-boosting effects, making it one of the three top beverages on Earth.
Corneliu Giurgea of Romania first coined the term nootropic in 1972 to describe drugs which enhance cognition. Commonly referred to as smart drugs, nootropics (or nootropics) may help improve memory, alertness, concentration and creativity and are safe when taken at recommended doses by healthy adults.
Nootropics, once only available through prescription, such as pharmaceutical medications for ADHD and narcolepsy, have now expanded into OTC supplements such as racetams, citicocinate and N-acetyl L-carnitine that are considered nootropics. When taken together they can work synergistically to enhance performance while minimizing side effects.
Kimera Koffee is an example of nootropic coffee designed to promote cognitive and physical energy balance. Available in blends for focus, endurance and calm with organic coffee from Dominican Republic beans combined with L-Theanine, Chaga Mushroom Extract and Ashwagandha Root Extract; its makers claim no more caffeine than any regular cup of coffee can deliver! Brew it yourself and customize according to personal taste – there’s even no limit!
