Sami’s Kabab House family opens Little Flower as their inaugural halal restaurant to Astoria’s blocklong stretch of 36th Avenue which hosts two main Muslim enclaves. While other local halal restaurants specialize in traditional dishes from their home countries, Little Flower takes an innovative approach by mixing Afghan elements with coffee shop classics and emphasizing quality ingredients.

As for food in general, most pastries are prepared using vegetarian-based margarines (types of margarine) or butter that does not come from pigs. Starbucks however serves sandwiches and eggbites containing bacon or ham which are forbidden under Islam, as well as drinks that contain alcohol and animal-derived gelatin; therefore if this concerns you, it would be wiser not to visit their establishments.
