Coffee is an enduringly popular drink that millions of people around the globe enjoy daily. Crafted from the roasted beans of the coffee plant, known as arabica or robusta varieties, its roots date back as far as 9th-century Ethiopia where goat herders noticed that their herds became unusually excited after eating seeds that gave them energy; these same goat herders decided to boil those seeds, discovering an energy-giving beverage called coffee! Today there are various varieties available from instant to iced to espresso or cappuccino coffee drinks that everyone can enjoy daily.

Arabica coffee is considered halal and contains low levels of caffeine; in comparison, Robusta contains much higher caffeine levels than its Arabica counterpart; therefore when purchasing coffee it is crucial that only halal-certified varieties are chosen.

How is coffee classified? This question depends on its ingredients; provided the beans do not mix with any prohibited elements (e.g. sugar and milk) then it should be permissible. There are even several flavored coffee varieties which qualify as halal beverages; however, any type of alcohol such as wine should be avoided for religious reasons.

At the same time, it is also crucial to take note of the process used to prepare coffee. If the beans have been immersed in water containing animal fats then drinking that coffee would be forbidden under Islamic law. Furthermore, improper cooking techniques could expose them to bacteria or other impurities which would contaminate their contents resulting in potentially unsafe beverages.

People may be confused as to what makes a beverage halal or haram. A key criterion in this regard is whether it intoxicates. Alcohol and drugs are generally seen as forbidden due to their potential to induce drunkenness; coffee and tea do not inebriate in any way.

However, it is essential to remember that although coffee does contain some caffeine, it should not be seen as an addictive or mentally unstable substance. Individuals need to decide what works for their bodies and health; excessive consumption of any lawful substance may be harmful; therefore, coffee and caffeinated drinks should be consumed within reason and limited accordingly; though there may be advantages from drinking coffee that outweigh concerns about its being forbidden or forbidden by religious authorities.
