9/23 Update: In April 2023 I paid nearly $12 per 12 oz container here. Now this & the other Amazon listings for this item are insanely priced. Unfortunately, I can’t see a way to order directly from the manufacturer & other sites with shipping also make this product too expensive. ConsumerLab’s top pick is Yerba Prima psyllium whole husks. While it has slightly less lead it’s not organic, which is important to me especially with products like this where pesticides can’t be washed off. So, now I must weigh if it’s better to take nonorganic psyllium or none at all.Review:WARNING 1: Please read this before trying.Regarding the product: I’m so glad I read through reviews for the single can to see that a couple of people don’t mix this in anything but instead put some in their mouth & swallow it with water.WARNING 2: Don’t try this until you’ve finished reading this review. The 1st couple of times doing this was fine. I used a tablespoon for 2 scoops total. I would (& do) pour about 1/3 of a tablespoon at a time into my mouth, fill my mouth with some water (cold or room temperature), then swallow. So, I use the tablespoon like a regular spoon & end up doing 6 rounds of sprinkling husks into my mouth. Sometimes I’ll also take an extra sip of water in between. Please be sure if you do this to also only sprinkle a small amount into your mouth at a time. If you want to make it easier use a teaspoon to ensure small amounts & repeat this 3 times per 1 tablespoon as 3 teaspoons equal 1 tablespoon. Unfortunately, one time I wasn’t mindful & sprinkled more into my mouth. It didn’t seem so bad at 1st. A couple of minutes later I felt a bad pain on the right side of my chest & began to cough uncontrollably. I coughed so much & so continually that I was barely able to draw in a tiny bit of air every few coughs. There was no way I could stop coughing enough to try to swallow some water to try to push it down. I honestly thought I was going to die. I expected to pass out, not be able to breathe, & die. It was one of the scariest experiences I’ve had. So, now I’m always mindful of each amount swallowed.WARNING 3: Also, do not drink it down with warm or hot water. The husks may swell, turn into gel, & could choke you. I’ve had hot tea about 5-10 minutes after taking the husks & that was not only fine but probably helpful as I want it to gel in my stomach to help fill me up.So, why do I still take it considering all this? Well for 1 reason, like I said, I’m now mindful of the amounts. For another, there’s no way I’d take it like most do. Once I put in it hot tea & there was a gel lining the inside of my cup & it also covered my strainer. I was hoping stirring would dissolve it but no. I had to use a spoon to scrape it off. I’m not doing this. On a side note, you can use this to thicken recipes (keto ice cream) & even make gummy candy. I mixed some with hot water, stirred it, & let it sit in the fridge. It would have been enjoyable with some flavoring & stevia. For another reason, it’s so easy & nearly tasteless which enables me to be compliant.Warning 4: According to ConsumerLab you want to take meds & supplements at least 1 hour before taking the husks & wait to take any more meds & supplements until at least 4 hours after. This is because psyllium can interfere with the absorption of meds & supplements. Results: I normally don’t “produce” more than once or twice weekly at best. Taking these husks help me to go a little more often. I’ve had no digestive issues but I’m also prescribed narcotics which slows motility & am on a keto diet. My hub on the other hand, goes every other day or so but after taking just 1 tablespoon (the way I do) he went 3 times that day. There was no distress just more business to do. So, try a tablespoon on a day you’re staying home just in case. Not only is this the best rated organic psyllium by ConsumerLab, it came with great customer service. After trying out a single can I decided to save money by ordering this 6 pack. While the packaging is great & sturdy for daily use it must be well protected during shipping. Unfortunately, my 1st order wasn’t protected enough & 2 of the lids & metal pull tops were torn away from the cardboard containers leaving the husks spilled out inside the box. I’m guessing it was banged into in transit for this to happen. I immediately took pics & contacted the company through my order section. I was given a refund. So, I just received my 2nd order & it had brown paper bunched around the perimeter & the 6 containers were wrapped & taped some.

Just loved it. The taste is great since there’s no taste. It’s really a lifesaver Product after an anal fissure surgery. That’s the only product which helped my bowel movements, soft and easy to pass. There is a new side effect of this product. It’s easy to drink it with a full glass of water doesn’t make me bloated week or lethargic, better than laxative or stool softener, or fiber.

This is a fiber supplement that really works – gently but effectively. This item is gluten free. It is grown, processed, packaged in gluten free facilities. Safe for Celiacs, IBD, Microscopic Colitis. It is clean (no dust) and the grind is perfect.

This psyllium has a very nice appearance and texture and is well packaged in its canisters. If we can trust that it is indeed organic, that adds greatly to its appeal. As for its actual health benefits versus other products, it would require some kind of biological/medical analysis to establish that IMO. All I can say is that it seems very clean and golden and seems high quality. Like everything else these days it has become a lot more expensive and so I am considering using less of it to stretch it further. I will continue to look for cheaper sources of whole psyllium. And I find shopping for psyllium complicated by the fact that many products are “psyllium powder”, which is very fine, like flour, and not what I’m looking for. For some reason the powder is often cheaper than the whole psyllium, not sure why.

This psyllium husk contains the bulkier flakes rather than the inferior processed powder offered by other brands. It may cost a bit more, but it’s worth it!

Least lead content of organics. Still affordable, too.
