Apple TV+’s hit series This Week featured a delightful episode in which our characters travel to Amsterdam after suffering defeat in a friendly football match.
Ingredients
Ted Lasso has had it rough lately. The soccer coach/American expat has found himself living far from Henry and his wife back home, plus his team’s record hasn’t been stellar either – all leading up to episode six of Apple TV+ series having an emotional meltdown.
But in an impressive display of magic from the writers, Ted was given an escape hatch in the form of some special tea. During his one-night stay in Amsterdam, assistant coach Beard offered Ted what appeared to be mushroom tea; though initially reluctant, Ted eventually succumbed and took a sip – likely mistaking it for some ordinary herbal concoction rather than real psychoactives.
This tea is composed of an amalgamation of herbs and spices such as ginger, turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon, cardamom vanilla and lemon peel; its ingredients have been touted to promote natural mood enhancement while aiding digestive health and helping weight loss. Ted Lasco Mushroom Tea can easily be found at any local supermarket and it is very affordable as well.
Sudeikis’ television show is based on a short commercial that he and co-creators Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly initially created for NBC Sports’ coverage of England’s Premier League in 2013. A second commercial was then made the following year, after which Liv Wilde encouraged Sudeikis to further develop his character into a full TV show.
Benefits
Apple TV+ hit Beard After Hours has long stayed within London’s leafy suburbs, but last night’s “Beard After Hours” brought Ted Lasso cast members all the way down to Amsterdam — where co-creators Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly first met! It was an appropriate destination as that’s where co-creators Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly first bonded together as co-writers.
Sudeikis’ character, Ted, is even named after a hotel in the city and there is strong connection between Ted and this place: in one episode Ted learns from his landlord that they have lived here since the late ’60s!
Moments such as these capture the spirit of this episode, which centers around relationships within AFC Richmond family and how they’re changing over time. Keeley and Jack’s blossoming romance, Rebecca’s new love interest, Roy & Jamie’s bromance all receive ample consideration throughout this installment.
As with the world of drugs, the show has an intricate relationship to them. A number of episodes have dealt with cannabis specifically; last night’s episode showed Ted taking Beard’s tea in order to hallucinate. But while hallucinogenic drugs do indeed cause hallucinations effects, this particular batch might not produce them.
Realistically, it’s more likely that the tea he consumed consisted of several different substances, including mushrooms and herbs. Herbal remedies commonly combine multiple substances for increased therapeutic benefit depending on dosage – one study even found that mixing MDMA with caffeine or stimulants enhanced its euphoria effects.
Smell
Ted Lasso, Apple TV+’s critically-acclaimed sports comedy, continues its outstanding run with episode six featuring assistant coach Beard (Brendan Hunt). When offered to Ted, who initially is reluctant to partake of its drugged content, Beard prepares a unique batch of mushroom tea which sends him down an unexpected dream sequence wherein he visits Van Gogh museum and experiences hallucinations inspired by Chicago Bulls triangle offense before developing winning football strategy for AFC Richmond!
This episode proves why the show took so long to fully develop the backstories of its characters, as this delight-inducing episode stands as its crowning achievement thus far.
But this episode also contains a dark side, as it deals with sports coaches taking drugs. Ted, an American college football coach hired as head coach by a fictional English Premier League club as part of a replacement plan to an earlier coach that was fired, needed new direction in terms of coaching style.
As a result, the entire coaching staff decides to lift its curfew and head out for one night of free-flowing fun in Amsterdam. From Higgins (Jeremy Swift) leading players into red-light district escapades or Ted and Keeley (Juno Temple and Jodi Balfour) roaming independently through the city streets, chaos ensues.
This episode showcases both cast and crew’s talent, with each member contributing something new this time. Writers and actors get to flex their creative muscles through an unconventional yet realistic story arc; production design and visual effects teams make an incredible job creating an amazing dream/trip scene that feels authentic.
With COVID-19 spreading across the nation and an electoral season that seems set on destabilizing it further, it is essential that we remember there’s still laughter out there. Ted Lasso is one of the funniest shows on 2021’s slate, so don’t hesitate to watch it for yourself.
Taste
Jason Sudeikis enthusiastically attempts to re-create Burt Reynolds’ famous 1972 Cosmopolitan magazine centerfold photo for Entertainment Weekly photographer in West London’s TV studios, but without being naked as in its iconic 1972 Cosmopolitan magazine centerfold photo. However, unlike Burt, Sudeikis doesn’t sport his trademark mustache from playing Ted Lasso (Apple TV+ Ted Lasso).
Beard prepares mushroom tea for Ted and himself, but he initially refuses to drink it due to knowing it contains powerful hallucinogenic mushrooms and doesn’t want a bad trip. After some convincing from Beard however, Ted eventually takes some and hallucinates Nate in the restaurant and learns some valuable triangle offense lessons through dream sequences that follow.
This episode stands out among all others of this season in terms of humor and character development, while also carrying a powerful message about believing in oneself. Every viewer should watch it.
Hard to believe, but we’re almost at the end of Ted Lasso season 3! There are only two episodes left until its finale airs on April 26.
The second season was an outstanding success and its three premiere episodes of its third installment have proven just as riveting. Jason Sudeikis stars as Ted Lasso, an American college football coach recruited as manager of an English Premier League soccer club named AFC Richmond by Rebecca Welton for revenge against her unfaithful ex-husband.
Following their devastating loss in Episode 5, the team travels to Amsterdam as an attempt to revive themselves. But little do they realize that this night out will turn into an amazing journey as members take drugs (including magic mushrooms) and visit beautiful sights that inspire them to keep fighting for their dreams. It is the perfect ending to the season and will leave you smiling from start to finish!
